Fitbit Charge 2 in the test: water scrubbing mainstream tracker
Fitbit Charge and Charge HR went like sliced bread. So it’s no wonder that the manufacturer relies on many tried and tested technology for the Fitbit Charge 2. Our test clarifies whether the successor to the best-seller model offers anything new and the update is worth it.
Small but nice design twists
The Fitbit Charge 2 is identifiable as the successor to the Charge HR in terms of design. The fitness tracker is still designed to be very functional and is less of a trendy fashion accessory. But: The bracelets can now exchange.
Fitbit also knows that customers are placing ever higher demands on a wearable. The Charge 2 can now not only bought with bracelets in different sizes and colors. These can also exchange as the mood takes you. If you want, you can even switch from silicone to a leather strap. It is also good that the classic watch clasp retain. As a result, more competing models continue to be lost.
More prominent display, more options
The display, which is four times larger than its predecessor, is also new. The OLED screen still does not offer a proper touch function, but thanks to the acceleration sensor, inputs are recognized at the touch of a finger – or with a firm tap.
That is why we only discovered this possibility after the first day of testing because the display is not nearly as sensitive as a smartphone touchscreen. Nevertheless, the Fitbit Charge 2, with its one-button, larger screen, and touch recognition, offers more information at a glance than the Charge HR. The operation is still very intuitive.

The biggest shortcoming remains
However, Fitbit also missed a vital design update for the second generation of wearables: The Charge 2 is still not waterproof. As good as the fitness tracker may be, it should continue to fall out of the prey scheme for all water rats. The tracking of swimming units is just as impossible as the promised round-the-clock pulse measurement if you take it carefully. Charge 2 remove for showering or bathing. After all, sweaty workouts and jogging laps in the rain shouldn’t be a problem; according to the manufacturer, the model is sweat-, rain- and splash-proof.
